They deserved to win, easily – and that’s what I took away from it. We will see how they handle Calgary’s stacked lineup and Edmonton’s speed in the coming week.

If you were at the game or have the stamina to sit through the horrid Avalanche commentator (they only had one tonight…) then you know that the Stars won because Richards, Erisksson and Neal are probably individually better than any of the Avalanche team, that is including their top players they decided to field tonight. Neal scored first off of his skate admitedly by accident, though the announcer would have you believe he was the luckiest person on earth when in actuality it was because he drove the net.

One thing really. The guy tends to win a lot. A whole slew of cup finals appearances as both a player and a member of the staff. He has the winning pedigree in his aura, it seems. That said, he’s been working a lot with a young defense the recent years and lets face it – we didn’t really change out d-core that much. Arguably our best assets on the blue line are all young kids and if we want them to be successful we need a guy running the defense that can handle youth.

The schedule ends with the Stars playing an exhibition game with the newly created Texas Stars at their freshly errected arena in Cedar Park (Austin). I’m going to keep an eye out for any news on whether these will be broadcasted or not somewhere – if nothing else maybe 1310 will start testing out it’s abilities as the new AM Radio carrier of Stars games.

They settled on a 3-year deal for 3 million – $750,000 for 2009-10; $1 million for 2010-11; $1.25 million for 2011-12 – According to Andrew’s Page. This setup continues the trend for the Stars that will give people light front end contracts that get beefier in the next year or two under the assumption that this year will be better, thus meritting a bigger inner-club cap for next year.

Likely a career back-up goaltender, Alex Auld isn’t the most terrible choice. He can play 25 games, more if needed and may put up decent numbers if our defense proves to be better than they actually seemed to be last year, which I fully expect (I’m optimistic).

As you know another “depth” defensemen has been signed by our fearless leader in Wowitka from the Blues blueline.
The response?  Well, as you can imagine the community isn’t happy.  I say as you can imagine, because they never are – but asside from that – this is a pretty questionable move when you don’t know [...]

Seems as if the Gustavsson Watch here at TDSA has finally come to a close. Reports are saying that the Swedish goalie has chosen to sign with the Toronto Maple Leafs over the other three candidates. I am generally pretty decent at predicting hockey outcomes – but I am genuinely surprised by this move – I was pretty sure he’d go with Dallas.

While no real updates or news have passed throught he lips of the Swedish goaltender in some time, Dallas isn’t letting Brian Burke be the only guy who can try to push him in their favor. Apparently, Neiuwendyk has recruited Fabian Brunnstrom – an ex-teammate of Gustavsson – to try to convince him that Dallas is indeed the place he needs to be come the start of the season. Brunnstrom had dinner with Jonas in Sweden recently and we can only hope that he knows just what to say – I assume he’s better with his native tongue than he is with English, after all.

Conner a Penguin?

Word is the lovable Chris Conner is now a Penguin, based on a two-way, one year contract.  Likely he will be spending a lot of that time in their minors affiliate but who knows.
I’d be lying if I said I didn’t enjoy watching the kid play, but I saw this coming.  There comes a point [...]
