There’s still nothing even resembling an answer from the Swedish goalie.

“It is very difficult to say. It may be tomorrow, or in a week,” Gustavsson told Expressen.  But as soon as possible, I would like to have everything clear, but it has to be the right decision.”

All four teams (Colorado, Toronto, Dallas and San Jose) are supposedly still on The Monster‘s list though many still report that the list is actually shortened to just Dallas and Toronto at this time.  You have to think that Colorado and San Jose themselves gave up on July 1st with the procuring of two goalies trying to shore up their situation at the position without relying on the 25 percent chance that the goalie will choose them.  Should Dallas do the same?  At this point it’s looking more and more like a good idea – but I still stand behind Joe’s decision to wait at this point.  That’s not to say I will still be such a great supporter tomorrow or the day after.

According to Mike Heika the DMN blog – Neiuwendyk will wait for Gustavsson’s answer before delving into the Goaltending free agent market.

“It’s a bit frustrating, but we have confidence in the player and we want to see if he picks us,” said Stars general manager Joe Nieuwendyk. “We’re hoping the decision will come (Thursday).”

We all hope so – who knows what will be left on the market by then.  Though the list is still pretty long the amount of people that are of a high enough class to be a sure fire bet for a goalie who is going to be able to clean up Turco’s messes but more so who is going to be able to win most of around 25 games that they put him in.  Heika also has an interesting quote from Joe about Zubov.

“I expect him to do that,” Nieuwendyk said. “I think he’ll keep us in the loop, and I think he definitely considers us an option.”

This clears up the reason why Zubov hasn’t re-signed with the Stars.  Looks like he’ll be with another team or in Dallas with a pretty small contract.  So all in all the day is filled with nothing but let down as the Stars still haven’t picked up a new free agent and even lost Begin to the Bruins.  Let’s hope Neiuwendyk’s patient stance doesn’t come back to bite him.  And further that the rumor that we’re in the talks for Scuderi is true and that it pans out in our favor.
